On the 8th of March, 2022, a selection of our Nursery, Primary and Secondary School teachers with primary school learners accompanied the Director, Mrs Jummai Sambo on a courtesy visit to our Neighbour, the Esama of Benin kingdom, HRH, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion. Do you have elderly neighbours you barley ever visit, we suggest you should. A lot of people are fearful that if they strike up a conversation with an elderly person they will be latched onto but that’s not what being neighbourly is about. You don’t have to take responsibility, it’s just about noticing things, and we noticed that our neighbour had a beautiful palace and was good friends with our late Founder, Dr. Mrs Maryam Babangida.
We walked across the road to his signature house opposite our school. Greeted with welcomes at the door, a song was presented to him in celebration of his upcoming birthday. The primary school learners composed and performed four (4) songs while their teachers’ composed three (3). In addition, a beautiful portrait drawn by the School fine art teacher, Mr Onaja Isaiah was also presented to him. There is so much value you can get from conversations with elderly people and we were happy that our students were able to interact with a glorious, kind and interesting man.
The school principal Mr. Yakubu gave a short speech to appreciate the Esama of Benin, shortly after the principal’s speech, his royal highness prayed for the school, teachers and learners. He also appreciated the kind gesture from the school. The school C.R.S teacher Mr. Ugochukwu also lead us in prayers. He could not hold back his joy; his smile was as infections as his presence. At the end of the courtesy visit, photographs were taken with his Royal Highness inside his home and outside his beautiful palace estate.
